Regulation of gene expression permits development of complex organisms
PROJECTS
Microbiome and the brain
This project studies the effects of known beneficial bacteria on gene expression in the brains of mice. We also measure psychological and developmental changes in response to these bacteria.
Effects of BPA on plants
The morphological and genomic effects of the environmental toxin bisphenol A on plants are being measured.
Inhibiting breast cancer cells with vitamin D
Vitamin D is able to inhibit reproduction of breast cancer cells. The goal of this project is to characterize this inhibition.
Exploring the microbiology of urban waterways
Greater Southwestern Chicago is filled with small urban waterways. These ecosystems are deeply impacted by their close proximity to large human populations. The goal of this project is to measure the effect on microbes that call these waterways home.
Viewing science through faith
The area of genomics has opened fields like epigenetics, comparative genomics, and metagenomics that have important implications for people of faith.
